It is with great sadness that we must convey the passing of Joe Kenny on Saturday 11th Feb 2017 after an 8 month battle with cancer.
Joe was very much a part of the Excel, Aldenham and Edgware Town family, watching his son Luke graduate from Excel and through the ranks of Aldenham and Edgware Town FC
Having been an Excel parent for several years, Joe switched touchlines to join the ranks of management for the 2012-2013 season where he helped steer the Aldenham U10s to the White (2nd) division trophy in their first Watford Friendly season.
Joe continued as part of the management team for three further years in the red (1st) division, as Aldenham became Edgware, with his last game being with the Edgware u13s, winning the Final of the Watford Friendly League Spring Cup.
In addition to his successes in the Watford Friendly League, he loved tournament football and helped guide both Aldenham and Edgware teams to a number of trophies in out of season 5, 6 and 7-a-side football tournaments.
Joe was a real force behind the teams he helped manage and whilst many would claim their tactics and advice played a part in our victories, there was no doubt that it was Joe’s passion that drove the team each week.
Whilst Joe loved the cut and thrust of match-day, he also worked tirelessly throughout the week to ensure venues and opponents were confirmed, emailing parents and, his special party piece, conjuring up referees at a moment’s notice.
In addition to being missed by all his family and friends, he will be sorely missed by his partners in crime in management, Joel Fox and Ken Savage, and by all the boys (and parents) that he managed along the way.
Our heartfelt wishes go out to Reggie, Darcy and Luke.
