A solid performance against lower league opposition saw United converting our superiority into a 6 – 0 victory, putting us through to the final 16 of the Challenge Cup.
Whilst we could have been more clinical at times in our finishing and made a few better decisions in the final third of the pitch, there were still some real positives to take out of today’s game.
Firstly, the boys took on board our comments about keeping tighter to their players and gave them much fewer options than we probably gave Harvesters last week and, following on from a week when we struggled to deliver a corner into the box, it was very satisfying to see two great quality corners from Adam and Ben met with equally great headers from Luke and Kieran to pick up two of our six goals.
There were again a few notable performances, in particular the boys across the back and in goal were solid throughout (well, other than the last 5 minutes when we seemed to move to a 1-2-5 formation!) but the outstanding performance of the day, winning man-of-the match and the captain’s armband for next week was Barsa, not only for his defending, but his general willingness to make himself available to the midfield and act as an outlet on the occasions when Southgate did get forwards.
