The second round of the County Cup saw United drawn at home to East Herts Youth from Division 4 of the Mid Herts Rural League.

We started somewhat slowly, allowing East Herts far more possession that they rightly deserved and while it took a while to break the deadlock, there was a feeling that when T.J. opened our account with our first goal that it would signal several more to come. Unfortunately, while it did signal more goals, it also signalled the start of some ‘poor decision making’, with some of the boys seemingly preferring to take on their men rather than play the simple pass and that allowed East Herts, who had pace if nothing else, to stay in the contest throughout the first half. We firstly allowed them to draw level at 1 – 1 and while Adam and Luke added to our account, we again let East Herts back into the game to go into half-time at 3 – 2.

In the second-half, we were much more dynamic, Luke scoring his second pretty much straight from the kick-off and then T.J. also completed his brace with a cracking shot into the top corner. Ben added a 6th with a great left footed volley from Adam’s corner and Buddy added one from the penalty spot, having done all the hard work to win the decision.

With the game finishing 7 – 2, the second half was a much better performance all around, with joint men of the match being awarded to Luke and T.J. and Luke winning the Captain’s armband for next week.
